Amelia Earhart Skips Across The Pond

May 20, 1932 On the fifth anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s famous flight, Amelia Earhart set out from Newfoundland in a quest to become the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo. She landed nearly fifteen hours later in Derry, Northern Ireland. Earhart’s plane, a Lockheed Vega 5b, is on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
