May 22, 1928 Record setting pilot Fiorenza de Bernardi was born in Florence, Italy, the daughter of famed seaplane pilot Mario de Bernardi. Fiorenza was the first female airline pilot in Italy and founded the Italian Women Pilot’s Association. She was inducted into the Women In Aviation Pioneer Hall of Fame in 2002.
