Irene McFarland Floats

June 28, 1925 Irene McFarland became the first female member of the “Caterpillar Club” an informal group founded by the president of the Irving Chute Company, open to anyone whose life was saved by use of a parachute. McFarland’s primary parachute failed during an airshow in Cincinnati. She deployed her backup chute and floated to safety.
